Back From Break! (Yawn.)

Hiya. Today is a short day. Short days are cool.

Duolingo: Do some reviews of past lessons.

English: You are going to write a story about Christmas. It can be any kind of story (science fiction, mystery, historical, autobiographical, fantasy, etc.) Today, I want you to brainstorm some ideas. (Use brainstorming charts, if they help!) Then, start putting things together. Begin to come up with main characters, locations, and more. You don't have to finish this all today...we'll be working on this for a couple of weeks. By the time you're done, you'll have an amazing short story!

Math: Workbook.

Science: Mercury worksheet. Also, read pages on stars.

History: Beginning Mythology. Do lap book pages.

Duolingo: Lesson.
History: Read papers on everyday life; do lapbook activity.
Math: Review Section 5:2, discuss with me.
Science: Worksheets/lapbook pages.
Current events: Pick some VlogBros. videos

THAT'S ALL. WOOT.

Hellooooooooooo

Heya, Annie. Long time no see (on here, anyway.) What are you going to do today? Well, here it is! YAY!

Duolingo: Next lesson. Then, do a comic strip or illustration with your new words.
Math: Correct lesson 5:1. Begin lesson 5:2, page 95. Complete page 95. Ask me for help if needed.
English: I really wish we could ifnd our textbook! Grumble. Anyway, read another chapter of your book (The Inquisitors.) Write one paragraph about something you like about this book. Write another paragraph about something you would change.
Science: Open book test on astronomy! Complete 1-6 on page 35.
History: More lapbook stuff. We will start assembling this today!
Read about Alexander the Great. Also, read another chapter of BSBT (you can do it!!)

You are amazing and wonderful. I am proud of the lovely, sassy person you are. I'm not just saying that to be all feel-good, either. It's true. xo
PS: I sent requests to the N. Wake homeschool teens and the Wake Forest homeschool group and asked for information about joining. We shall give them a try!

If I Could Choose Any Day, I Would Choose Tuesday

YAY, TUESDAY! What's so exciting about Tuesday, you may wonder? Well, nothing in particular, but it is going to be a fabulous day.

What are we doing today?

Duolingo? Yes! Learn more. Think of a way to show me what you've learned and then do it! (We've done comics and goofy stories and timed tests. You could do one of those or pick something else.)

Science: Read the information on the sun. It's really interesting. You'll learn about luminosity and hydrogen lines and classes of stars. Maybe we can watch some of Cosmos later. I'll even get popcorn. Anyway, after reading about the sun, do the lap book activities on the sun and also on the moon phases, which you already know all about.

History: Do the lap book pages on government. There are several, because government was and is kind of a big deal.

Math: More on equivalent ratios. You're doing so well on these!

English: 2 more BSBT.

Art: Did you design your ultimate block carving? If so, good job. If not, do that. Maybe consider doing one related to either your Greece studies or your astronomy studies. Check out Pinterest for inspiration (but don't copy!)

Happy Monday!

Helloooo, Annie! I hope your weekend was pretty okay! Today is Monday, which is our shorter day. That's a good way to start the week, don't you think?

Here we go!

History: Read about types of government. This is good to know, not just for studying ancient Greece, but when you study history in general (and current events, too!) Your information can be found on the worksheets I have for you, and also here. Think about how different types of government might affect  the citizens. Tomorrow, you'll have lap book activities based on what you learn today.

Math: We'll go over the next part of your worksheet packet, and then you can complete the assignment.

Science: Finish reading the chapter on astronomy. Read carefully! We will be doing activities for the rest of the week, but you will have a quiz on Friday. (HINT! Read over the questions at the end of the chapter. This aren't exactly your test questions, but they're pretty close.)

English: Read two more chapters of BSBT. That's it for today...just read.

Duolingo: Keep going! After your lesson, challenge yourself and see how many words you can remember (*all* of your German vocabulary, not just this lesson) and write as many as you can in one minute!

Extra: See if you can find the large paperback copy of The Book Thief in your room. It might be in Allie's bookcase. When you finish reading The Book Scavenger, start on that. You will love it.

Thursday! It's So Close to Friday!

Hello, Annie! You are doing an amazing job so far! Keep it up!

First, I liked your insightful responses on the questionnaire. Your answers were interesting and they will help me make your homeschool year better.

Today, make sure you finish up anything from yesterday that wasn't completed. I will be checking everything later tonight, so please leave it for me in a nice, neat stack on the desk. Thank you!

Hey, Annie, what are we gonna do today? Weeeeelllll......

History: You should know all about those city-states by now. Let's move on!

The Persian War
Greece at War (You can use information here on your Athens/Sparta lap book pages, if you need more about the differences.)
Crash Course! Aren't we grateful for John Green? Yes, yes we are.

Art: Perfect your block design, or create another. Tomorrow, we'll print your NC block, and next week we'll carve the designs you complete this week.

English:  Read two more chapters of BSBT. What do you think of the epic so far? Pick your favorite part of the story and illustrate it. Write a short paragraph (5-6 sentences) to describe the events in your illustration. Make sure to use exciting adjectives and adverbs, proper capitalization and punctuation, and of course, complete sentences.

Science:  A Reminder About Light Years: Watch the first 2 minutes of this video:

Do the assignment in your textbook, page 33, activity b. Then read the section on constellations.

Do you want to spend a few minutes on a really amazing site? Then check out Hubblesite! It's gorgeous.

Math: Do the review worksheet. We will discuss your current lesson at the beginning of your day.

I love you! Have a fabulous day!

Wednesday. October 19, 2016: The Second Day

Complete the following in any order. BE AMAAAAZING. (In other words, do your best.)

Greece: Read the information on the following sites.

City-States: Read this page and follow the links to the five most powerful city-states
The BBC (sorry, no Poldark)

Then, complete the lap book activities.

German: Duolingo lesson (Duolingo autocorrected to "dueling" several times. Dueling lessons coming soon.) Show me what you've learned by writing either a crossword or a drawing with all your words worked into the picture. (For example, if you learned the words bear, skateboard, helicopter, mountain, elf, and pizza, you could draw a bear jumping out of a helicopter being piloted by an elf, landing on a skateboard and riding down the side of a mountain while eating pizza.) (I apologize for the terrible structure of that sentence. Cringe.) Label the picture in German.

English: Read two more chapters of Black Ships Before Troy. Write an  acrostic poem about an epic journey you've taken (or make one up!)

Math: Worksheets! Fabulous, wonderful worksheets!

Science: Watch this:

Constellations: Do the Orion worksheets. Use the HA Rey books for your reference.

Art: On pinterest, look up block carvings and linoleum carvings. Sketch out a couple of ideas for a block of your own. Get creative! Think of things you love and be inspired. The picture below is *actually* a block carving, although it's a wood carving and not linoleum. Amazing, huh?

This is a neat linoleum carving:

So, there it is! Annie, have an awesome day!
